Kirinyaga

Grown in the fertile red volcanic soils at the base of Mount Kenya, this washed coffee from Kirinyaga exemplifies the crisp, complex flavour profiles for which Kenyan coffee is globally prized.

Produced by smallholder farmers, each typically cultivating around 250 trees on half-acre plots, the cherries are delivered to the Kirinyaga factory, part of the highly respected Rungeto Farmers’ Cooperative Society.

Here, cherries undergo rigorous hand-sorting and floating to ensure only the densest, ripest fruit is processed. The beans are de-pulped, fermented, washed, and then soaked in fresh water, a unique Kenyan practice that deepens acidity and structure. Drying is carried out over two weeks on raised beds, ensuring even moisture reduction.

Graded by size and density before export, this lot showcases the cooperative’s dedication to quality, cleanliness and transparency. Expect a vibrant, layered cup, expressive of the terroir and the skilled hands that produced it.
