Cold Brew Guide

Cold brew is the perfect summer companion, refreshing, smooth, and naturally sweet. Unlike iced coffee (which is brewed hot and cooled down), cold brew is made with cold water over a long steep time, which results in lower acidity and a rich, mellow flavour.

What makes it special?

The Hario design is minimalist and practical: a built-in fine mesh filter keeps the grounds contained, while the 1-litre carafe fits neatly in the fridge door. It’s ideal for brewing in batches and perfect for coffee lovers who enjoy a cool, refreshing brew, any time of day.

How to Brew

You’ll need:

  • 80g of coarsely ground coffee (like sea salt)
  • 1 litre of cold, filtered water
  • Hario Cold Brew Coffee Maker (1Ltr)

Steps:

1.     Add 80g of coarsely ground coffee to the mesh filter inside the carafe.

2.    Slowly pour cold filtered water into the carafe until it reaches the 1L mark.

3.    Gently shake or swirl the carafe to ensure all grounds are wet.

4.    Place the lid on and store in the fridge.

5.    Let it steep for 12–18 hours — the longer it brews, the richer the taste.

6.    Remove the filter with the coffee grounds and enjoy your cold brew!

Tip

A coarse grind prevents over-extraction and makes the brew smoother. Serve over ice or mix with milk, oat milk, or tonic water for a twist.

Curiosity

Cold brew is believed to have roots in 17th century Japan, where Kyoto-style cold drip coffee was first introduced. Today, it’s enjoyed worldwide for its mellow taste and natural sweetness, no sugar needed.
