Kateshi Estate coffee comes from Zambia, where innovative fermentation techniques bring out a refined and vibrant cup profile. Unlike traditional washed or natural processed coffees, anaerobic fermentation uses sealed containers to carefully control the process, allowing for a wide spectrum of flavours from subtle to intense. This season’s offering is notably cleaner and more balanced than previous years, showcasing bright fruitiness and citrus notes without overwhelming the palate.
Cultivated to shine at light to medium roast levels, this coffee presents a strong acidity and a thick, full body. At lighter roasts, expect pronounced citrus and tropical fruit flavours with a clean finish, complemented by hints of chocolate and spice that emerge as the cup cools. Medium roasts develop a buzzy acidity with chocolaty undertones and exotic fruity highlights, alongside a subtle woody, barrel-aged character that adds complexity. Darker roasts deliver a bittersweet profile with depth, distinct from the creamy smoothness typical of washed coffees.
